A natural remedy for Eczema

Baobab oil is an excellent natural remedy for eczema, relieving the dry, itchy skin associated with this very common skin problem.  Baobab oil is naturally rich in essential fatty acids (EFA’s)  also known as Omega 3 and Omega 6   These EFA’s are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential to good health. But even though your body needs these vital fats, it can’t manufacture them. Instead, there are two optimal ways of taking in these EFA’s;  absorb them through your diet and apply them topically to your skin.

What is Eczema?

The word eczema comes from the Greek word ekzein meaning “to boil out” and the millions of people who suffer from it will certainly agree. The dry, swollen red, flaky and inflamed skin irritation is enough to drive anyone to boiling point!

At 31%, baobab oil is considered to contain a high level of Omega 6 (linoleic acid)  which is best known for its ability to heal, hydrate and plump skin, helping the skin retain its own moisture through the epidermis. Clinical trials involving more than 1,200 eczema sufferers concluded that it was the omega 6 in Evening Primrose oil which benefitted the itching, crusting, inflammation, and redness of eczema.  Similarly, the high levels of omega 6 in Baobab oil makes it a safe natural remedy for the symptoms of eczema and dermatitis.  Omega 6 also provides anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and healing support, softening  the skin by maintaining its suppleness.

Baobab oil and Eczema

Baobab  contains 0.8% of Omega 3 which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and at 37% is also particularly rich in Omega 9 (Oleic acid). Oleic acid make oil “richer” so it becomes extra-occlusive and seals in moisture thereby very effectively restoring normal skin barrier function. Baobab oil has an almost perfect balance between omega 6 and omega 9. It’s the linoleic oil which makes Baobab oil light, fast absorbing and non-comedogenic (it won’t block pores), it’s the Oleic acid which helps to give baobab oil its deep moisturising and nourishing quality as well as it’s unusually long shelf-life of around 2 years.  As it doesn’t need chemical preservatives,  baobab oil is best used on its own.  The fewer complicated product ingredients being used on an already inflamed and sensitive skin, the better.

Although baobab oil is complex in itself, it’s a wonderfully simple solution to eczema!
